A good Cavendish day is less about collecting stops than choosing the right access point, checking the coast and leaving time to walk beyond the busiest area.
The red-sand shoreline and sandstone cliffs are the attraction, but they are also changing natural features. Use official parking and marked access, keep back from cliff edges, and follow current park guidance.
Before leaving for the beach
- Check official beach, weather and surf information.
- Confirm seasonal park access and facilities.
- Pack sun and wind protection; coastal conditions can shift.
- Use a reusable water bottle and carry out what you bring.
Build a simple day
Start with the beach rather than a long list of attractions. A walk, swim where conditions and supervision allow, and an unhurried meal can fill most of the day. Add Green Gables or another Cavendish stop only if the timing remains comfortable.
Protect the dunes and cliffs
Dune grass stabilises the shore. Cross only on designated paths or boardwalks, never climb dunes for a photograph, and treat eroding cliff edges as unstable even when they look dry.
With children or a mixed-mobility group
Confirm which access points have the most suitable surfaces and facilities for the group. Distances across sand can feel longer than map distances, and not every viewpoint is barrier-free.
What to verify on the day
Parking, supervised swimming, washrooms, food service and programming can all be seasonal. Current official information should take priority over an older travel article.
